Join the JLW

Eligibility

To be eligible to join the Junior League of Washington as a New Member, a woman must be at least 21 years of age by the JLW Membership Contract deadline (March 11, 2013) and live in the greater Washington, DC area. Every woman interested in joining the JLW must have an Active or Sustaining Member of the JLW serve as her Sponsor. If you do not currently know a member of the JLW, a Sponsor will be assigned to you.

How to join the JLW?

Step 1: Become familiar with JLW

The JLW will offer informal "Getting to Know the JLW" open houses that will allow you to meet members of the Junior League of Washington who will share their experiences, offer information about the JLW, and answer your questions. If you are interested in joining the JLW, but do not know an Active or Sustaining Member of the JLW to serve as your Sponsor, these open houses are a great opportunity to meet JLW Actives and Sustainers who could potentially serve as your Sponsor. These open houses are optional and will be held on the dates listed below. Registration for the optional “Getting to Know the JLW” open houses is now open. You may click on one of the links below to register to attend. Please only register for one “Getting to Know the JLW” open house.

Step 2: Submit an on-line application

Women interested in joining the Junior League of Washington are required to submit a JLW Membership Application by December 14, 2012. Click HERE to access the 2013 - 2014 Membership Application.

The JLW Membership Application must be completed by December 14, 2012. Applications submitted after December 14, 2012, will not be accepted. No hard copies of the JLW Membership Application will be accepted; all applications must be submitted electronically through the link provided in the above paragraph. Each application will be reviewed by the Member Recruitment Committee.

Step 3: Attend a Mandatory Recruitment Orientation Session and submit contract

If your JLW Membership Application fulfills all requirements set forth within the application then you will be notified by January 1, 2013, and invited to attend a mandatory JLW Recruitment Orientation Session.

The formal Recruitment Orientation Sessions in January and February give prospective members the opportunity to learn more about the JLW. At the Recruitment Orientation Sessions, each attendee will receive a JLW Membership Contract, which must be submitted by March 11, 2013. Membership contracts are only distributed at the Orientation Sessions, thus attendance at one session is mandatory. Links to register for the Recruitment Orientation Sessions will be posted on January 1, 2013 and available only to those applicants that submitted a complete on-line membership application.

Step 4: Invitation to Join the JLW New Member Class of 2012-2013

The JLW is not always able to accommodate all of the women who are interested in joining. All JLW Membership Contracts that are submitted by the deadline on March 11, 2013 and which fulfill all the requirements set forth within the contract are entered into a lottery system to determine the women who will be invited to join the JLW’s 2012-2013 New Member Class.  If your contract is selected, you will be invited to join the 2012-2013 New Member class and must pay your New Member dues and the New Member Course fee of approximately $300 by May 1, 2013.
