Junior League of Washington Announces 2008 Meg Graham Scholarship Winner: Ivory Sherman The Junior League of Washington has announced that Ivory Sherman is the 2008 Meg Graham Scholarship winner. Ms. Sherman will receive a $10,000 scholarship towards her college education. She will attend Syracuse University in the fall, a student of the Newhouse School of Public Communications, where she plans to major in broadcast journalism. During her high school career, Ms. Sherman accumulated 468 hours of community service. Her main volunteer activity was taking part in 2kNation -- a youth-run radio program for students in grades 9-12 in the DC metropolitan area. She hosted a radio show every Sunday that shed a positive light on issues that affect African -Americans, covering various topics from teen pregnancy to dietary issues. "The Junior League is honored to have such a shining example of volunteer commitment from a DC high school student as this year's Meg Graham Scholarship winner. She embodies everything that the Junior League and our mission of providing trained volunteers and leaders to the community is all about", says President of the Junior League, Diana Marousek. This year, the Junior League of Washington celebrated its 25th year of the Meg Graham Scholarship, promoting academic excellence and volunteer service within the District of Columbia school system. The scholarship honors the late Reverend Margaret M. Graham, a past president of the Association of Junior Leagues International, former Rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Georgetown, co-founder of the National Alliance to End Homelessness, and a long-time member of the Junior League of Washington. The Meg Graham Scholarship honors her inspiring legacy of leadership and volunteer service.
