Women improving the Washington DC Community since 1912

Centennial Events

The Junior League of Washington (JLW) is celebrating and honoring our 100 years of community service and dedication to the DC community with three special events throughout the 2012 - 2013 year. Proceeds from these events will benefit the JLW’s Centennial Signature Project – JLW Resolution Read.

JLW Resolution Read continues our efforts to make a meaningful impact on literacy by addressing the three critical ares that comprise our new, narrowed, focus:

1) providing age-appropriate books in homes,

2) providing age appropriate books to classrooms and libraries, and

3) reading aloud to children.

For our centennial year, the JLW is launching an effort to purchase and distribute 100,000 new books to Washington, DC's neediest children through a variety of community partners. By putting together the work already being done to read aloud to children through our Resolution Read program , and giving books to the community through Books for Bright Futures, we believe providing books to the most needy in Washington, DC, will help foster a passion for books and reading where it otherwise might not exist.

Information will be provided throughout the year on ways JLW members can get involved in our Centennial Signature Project. However, in order to purchase and distribute 100,000 books, we need your help as soon as possible! Please save the dates for our exciting Centennial Celebration events and click here to purchase your tickets and to see more detail on each event.
