JUNIOR LEAGUE OF WASHINGTON TO HOST ANNUAL CHILD NUTRITION FAIR AT YMCA ANTHONY BOWEN

February 26, 2019 (WASHINGTON, DC) – The Junior League of Washington (JLW) is proud to host once again its fun-filled, family-friendly nutrition fair, Kids in the Kitchen. In its 13th year in Washington, DC, this free event brings local restaurants, nonprofits, and nutrition and fitness experts together for a day of games, crafts, hand-on learning, and exciting prizes to celebrate and promote better nutrition education and a healthy lifestyle.

Everyone is welcome, with exhibits, games, and activities for children ages 3-13. Special activities this year will include cooking demonstrations, physical fitness classes, a nutrition-focused story corner, and crafts.

WHY:
Childhood obesity is a raging epidemic in every developed country, and poor nutrition and childhood obesity remain serious problems in Washington, DC. Recognizing that obesity can impact a child’s mental and physical health, with implications for their education, social lives, and ultimate success, the Kids in the Kitchen program was born.

This event is part of a broader initiative by The Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc. (AJLI), of which JLW is a member. More than 225 Leagues across four countries have participated in Kids in the Kitchen, supporting the fight against the epidemic of childhood obesity, helping improve the health and wellness of children, and promoting nutritional literacy and a healthy lifestyle.
