Junior League of Washington Invites Washington, D.C. Area High School Seniors to Apply for Academic Scholarship

The 2024 Meg Graham Scholarship Application is Open Until March 1

WASHINGTON, D.C. – February 8, 2024 – The Junior League of Washington (JLW), a non-profit organization of over 2,300 women dedicated to advancing women’s leadership for community impact through volunteerism, collaboration, and training, is pleased to announce that the Meg Graham Scholarship: Celebrating Service and Leadership application is now open. This $10,000 college education scholarship is available to all eligible Washington, D.C. high school seniors and closes at 11:59 p.m. ET on Friday, March 1, 2024.

Formed in 1982, this award was established by the late Reverend Margaret M. “Meg” Graham, a former president of the Association of Junior Leagues International and former member of JLW. The Rev. Graham, herself a beneficiary of academic scholarships, was renowned for her commitment to social justice. Today, this scholarship honors her dedication to serving others by awarding it to a high school senior who has shown exceptional leadership and volunteerism.

“Reverend Graham was an incredible leader in our community, attributing academic scholarships to providing her with opportunities she wouldn’t have otherwise had,” said JLW President, Kimberly Price. “This scholarship represents one of the ways the JLW fosters pathways to opportunity across the greater Washington, D.C. area. It is an honor each year to continue her legacy by awarding a scholarship in her name.”

This scholarship is open to any high school senior who is a Washington, D.C. resident; attends a public, charter, private, or parochial high school in Washington, D.C.; and is matriculating to an accredited, four-year, postsecondary institution in the fall of 2024. The individual must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 5.0 scale and record of volunteer leadership and commitment to continued volunteer leadership. Selected finalists must be available to attend a 30-minute, in-person interview on April 13 or 14, 2024, at Junior League of Washington Headquarters and the winner will be notified by April 24, 2024.
