JOIN THE JLW
All women are encouraged to join JLW regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, or national origin. We are united by our commitment to serving our community through trained volunteer service and to developing the potential of women everywhere.
The Junior League of Washington accepts members each year through a four-step application process. Please read on to learn more about this process, including important application deadlines.
Being a member of JLW comes with many benefits – not only unique opportunities to serve and lead, but also discounts with local retailers, museums, theatres, fitness classes, and more. Click here to learn more about these benefits.

- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must be a resident within the greater Washington, DC, area

HOW TO JOIN THE JLW?
STEP 1: BECOME FAMILIAR WITH JLW
Joining JLW as a New Member begins with becoming familiar with the League. Each fall, JLW offers informal “Getting to Know the JLW” open houses. At these open houses, interested women meet JLW members, who share their experiences, offer information about JLW, and answer questions. If you are interested in joining JLW but do not have a sponsor, these open houses are a great opportunity to meet JLW Actives and Sustainers who could potentially serve as your sponsor. While attending an Open House is not mandatory and you can submit an Applicant Interest Form without attending, participation is highly encouraged.
We hope to see you during one of our upcoming Open Houses!
STEP 2: SUBMIT OUR ONLINE APPLICANT INTEREST FORM
Once you are familiar with the membership process and requirements, you may submit the online Applicant Interest Form. The Applicant Interest Form will be live on August 1, 2017, and all forms must be completed on, or before, December 1, 2017, at 11:59 p.m.
STEP 3: ATTEND A MANDATORY RECRUITMENT ORIENTATION SESSION AND SUBMIT APPLICATION
All women who meet the requirements set forth within the Applicant Interest Form will be notified and invited to attend a mandatory Recruitment Orientation Session, several of which are held in January and February. Invitations are non-transferable and will be sent to eligible women on January 2, 2018.
Recruitment Orientation Sessions give prospective members the opportunity to learn more about JLW, and attendance is mandatory to continue the application process. For planning purposes, the 2018 Recruitment Orientation Sessions will be held on:
Saturday, January 20 – 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Thursday, January 25 – 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Monday, January 29 – 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Tuesday, February 1 – 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Sunday, February 11 – 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Thursday, February 22 – 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. (SNOW DATE)
Once a prospective new member attends a Recruitment Orientation Session, they will receive another non-transferable link for the application and the $35 applicant processing fee that accompanies the application. The non-refundable fee is payable at the time the online application is filed. Women who submit an applicant processing fee but are not selected in the lottery will have the fee waived if they re-apply the following year. All applications must be completed on, or before, March 2, 2018, at 11:59 p.m. After all applications have been reviewed, the women will be placed into a lottery and will be notified of their status in early April 2018.
STEP 4: INVITATION TO JOIN THE JLW NEW MEMBER CLASS OF 2018-2019
JLW welcomes 250-300 new members every year. However, that means we are not always able to accommodate all women who are interested in joining each year. Every eligible candidate who submits each requirement on time will be entered into the lottery system to determine who will be invited to join JLW’s 2018-2019 New Member Class. All applicants will be notified of their status by the Member Recruitment Committee in early April 2018, and those accepted must pay new member dues and course fee ($319 for the 2017-2018 year) by May 1, 2018.
By becoming one of the Junior League of Washington’s trained volunteers, your service can improve the lives of women and children in Washington, DC.
